Tough day at World Championships for USA

Jessica Medina shoots in for a takedown in the second round.
U.S. wrestlers Jake Fisher, Alyssa Lampe and Jessica Medina fell short of medaling on Day 3 of the World Championships on Wednesday at the Olympiysky Sports Complex. Fisher fell to past Olympic and World bronze medalist Christophe Guenot of France 1-0, 0-1, 0-1 in the first round in Greco-Roman at 74 kg/163 lbs. Guenot gained pushouts in the final two periods to prevail over Fisher, who is competing in his first World Championships.Fisher was eliminated when Guenot lost in the third round.“In the first period, I controlled the pace. I won that period and felt good. In the second period, he came at me and I let him control the pace. He got a pushout. The third period kind of was even. I made a mistake. I tried to push him out, lost my balance and he pushed me out,” said Fisher. “I thought he would pull me back in. He lost. That’s what you get for losing.”The U.S. finished without a World medal in Greco-Roman for the first time since 2003.
